Louisiana is one of the few states that licenses tree work itself. The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry's Horticulture Commission requires an arborist license for anyone who works on trees for a fee, including removal and pruning, and license holders must show proof of general liability insurance and, where it applies, workers' compensation. A license from Texas or Mississippi doesn't count here. Ask for the Louisiana arborist license number, check it against LDAF's published list, ask for a current certificate of insurance, and get a written contract that spells out the work and the price.
